Plastiseals are water-soluble, proprietary, cut and fold finishing
agents designed to give numerous properties to woven labels. They are
semi-durable thermoplastic polymeric resins that will leave a soft to firm
“hand” for the back coating of labels. All of the products can be combined for
various types of “hands”. If problems exist when cut and folding as far as the
finish sticking to the knives, ask for our lower viscosity Plastiseal line.
Also Penetrant 55 can aid in preventing sticking.

To apply Plastiseals, prepare a formulation. Typical starting formulas would be
six parts of Plastiseal
Concentrate to three parts
of Plastiseal CF. Plastiseal 45,
50, Special,
or Plastisoft can be
substituted for Plastiseal
Concentrate. If more tack is
needed increase the amount of the Plastiseal
CF or visa versa for less tack. You
can formulate various Plastiseals for a customized mix. For example, three parts Concentrate,
three parts 50, and three parts CF. (This would add some firmness with excellent
flexibility and enough tack for the end folds to stick together.) Plastiseals are applied on
a three roll-finishing machine. The
center roll holds the resin and in return is deposited on the label.

The labels are
run between the middle and top rolls, which applies the finish to the back of
the label. Some finishers wrap the center
roll with a heavy denim cloth to hold more finish and evenly distribute the
resin. If greater firmness is needed or to lower the
viscosity of the finishes, our Polymer VA
can be added to the formula. Should foam become a problem, use our
Ant-foam 100, as it won’t react with the finishes. For maximum penetration,
preventing build-up on the rollers or film drying in the finishing bath, our Penetrant 55 can solve this. Plastiseals dry and cure in
the 200-225 degree Fahrenheit range. If heating cans are being used they should
be adjusted in increments to avoid finish building up on the first few cans.
